16 Weeks Pregnant

I didn’t post my 15 week bump post last week as I didn’t get round to it so this week my bump looks quite a lot bigger!

I had my 16 week appointment with the midwife yesterday and heard the heartbeat which was lovely and I have been feeling movement for the last couple of weeks which is the bit I love most about being pregnant. The first few times where really subtle but now I can tell when they are moving around in there, and it’s usually at night-time, surprise surprise!

I have been craving healthy food like vegetables, chicken and eggs which is good as last time all I wanted to eat was cake! Sweet potatoes are a particular favourite, as is haloumi cheese!

I have been feeling back to my usual self over the last week too, I have the occasional day where I feel a bit peaky but compared to how I was feeling, I can’t really complain.

I have also decided what to do about the whooping cough vaccine. I spoke to my midwife and she said it is fine to have it after giving birth so I am going to do that. My friend who lives in Australia said that this is the way they do it over there. The baby will get the anti-bodies through my breast milk and I will obviously be protected so won’t be able to pass it on to them. I just feel better about doing it this way so am relieved I have made a decision.

We are off on holiday on Monday and then when we get back it won’t be long until our 20 week scan when we can find out whether I am right about it being a boy in there!

I have already started to think about the birth and what I can do to try and make sure I have the drug-free positive labour that I so badly wanted last time. The main thing for me is being able to relax and being at fit as possible so I have started yoga and am also going to be doing a hypnobirthing course. I went to an taster session a couple of weeks ago and listened to what it is all about and I am sure that it is the right thing to help me, I have a post coming up next about it…

Looking lovely Jess and that bump is growing. You are so much more educated than me about all these vaccines, I have no clue about any of them! x

Can really recommend the hypnobirthing stuff – even though I ended up induced and a c-section it really helped pre-labour

That’s really good to hear, I have heard that no matter how the birth turns out it can help to make it a more relaxed and positive experience which is exactly what I would like x

I was really surprised to hear they were recommending the hooping cough vaccine in pregnancy, I find the thought of that really scary. Your bump is so neat! Lovely meeting you yesterday x

I love your bump updates :) Makes me realise I should probably be taking some pics of mine but I’m finding it much harder to remember this time round – bad mummy!
I’m also keeping an eye on your whooping cough/flu info. I’m still waiting to see my midwife to make the decision, but if the baby is protected via breastmilk I don’t see any reason to get it done during pregnancy.
E was a ‘hypnobaby’! Best money I spent during my first pregnancy, it was brilliant!! I don’t think we’ll be able to go to classes again this time round now that we have E but the midwife who taught us the technique last time is happy to come and give us some ‘top up’ sessions before baby 2 arrives, which I’m really excited about. I thought the classes were a wonderful experience and it really gave my OH and I ownership over the birth. I’d love to know how you get on with it :)

Lovely bump! Glad you’re feeling better – halloumi is delicious so I don’t blame you for craving it!

Looking lovely and I agree that feeling the baby move makes it all worthwhile. I started feeling squish at about 14 weeks too and have plenty of proper kicks now. Looking forward to next update x
