Enjoyment

A few years ago, channel 71 didn’t mean anything to me. I knew it by the name of CBeebies but it was just an annoying kids channel that my younger brother used to watch.

Five minutes of the over-repeated shows and over-enthusiastic presenters would have me running for the front door quicker than when my mum asked me to babysit (I moved back home for a few months in my early twenties!).

Fast forward a few years and pressing button 7 followed by 1 is my automatic response when holding a remote control.

I’m not going to lie, we do have CBeebies on a lot in my house, I know there is a big debate about television watching for the under two’s, I wrote about it here – No Telly For The Under Two’s? – but I will be far more concerned about her watching it when she is older.

At this age she doesn’t pay that much attention to it, I don’t leave her alone when she’s watching it and it has taught her so much in terms of speaking and counting, not to mention practicing her groovy moves that I am almost grateful for it’s existence some days.

Plus she is a real fan of lots of the characters from the shows. Waybuloo and In The Night Garden are her favourites, she actually falls asleep hugging Iggle Piggle and keeps her arm around him all night. She has the Numberjacks on DVD as she loves them so much and we love singing along to Show Me Show Me and The Zingzillas.

Which is why yesterday saw us driving in the pouring rain to watch The Zingzillas perform at a nearby animal farm. It was one of those moments where you realise how much your life has changed since becoming a parent.

A few years ago I would have struggled to imagine Dad2BabyInsomniac and I stood in a cold wet field, queuing to have our photos taken with some people dressed up in monkey outfits but as I was stood there being barged out of the way by a woman ten times bigger than me, there was no-where I would have rather been because my enjoyment comes from seeing Iyla happy and watching her little face as The Zingzillas came out gave me far more enjoyment than anything in my pre-parenting days did.

New week we are off to see In The Night Garden Live and I think Dad2BabyInsomniac and I are easily as excited as Iyla, I mean we are going to spend two minutes, on our own, with Upsy Daisy after the show!

So here we are with the most famous rock band in the world … THE ZINGZILLAS!

I queued for 2 hours to meet Captain Barnacles. When we got to the front both kids went into complete meltdown over the sight of a 6ft polar bear, so I got my photo taken with him on my own! (I love Octonauts as much as the kids)

Awwww, this post really made me smile (and not only the photos of you looking super excited about meeting The Zingzillas). It’s so true that becoming a parent brings you so much ore joy in things than you ever had before. And your idea of a good time changes dramatically. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was complaining to my parents about not wanting to go on a boring “nice walk” at weekends. Now I absolutely love finding beautiful gardens and parks near us so we can take the little guy out for a “nice walk” on our weekends. How times change! X
