I wanted to try and make a skirt out of old material for Iyla.
I have seen quite a few on Pinterest and love the way that each one is completely unique. I used this tutorial….http://www.kristanlynn.com/2011/09/tututorial-diy-fabric-tutu.html.
I don’t live near a fabric store so I decided to just cut up an old skirt and some tops that I had lying around for my first attempt. Then once I have the hang of it I can buy some nicer material.

I started by cutting the material into strips and tying them onto a length of elastic (I checked it fitted around Iyla’s waist beforehand). I used pinking shears to limit the fraying. When you have finished tying on the strips of fabric just sew the two ends of the elastic together and you are done!

Here is Iyla wearing the finished skirt (the poses are all her own!)…

I think next time I would experiment with different materials but overall I am really happy with it and it was so easy to make!

Aw I love this Jess and Iyla looks adorable in it! I really like the floatiness of it. If you get your hands on some cheap netting the process works really well for a tutu and you can go mad with the colours too! x x
