I have had my first breastfeeding related problem this week and it has really got me thinking about my whole experience. I have been breastfeeding Iyla for 7 months and I have honestly loved every minute of it and when I look at how big she is now I can’t help but feel impressed that its down to me, well me and all the cake I have been consuming! I have been able to eat to excess and haven’t put on any weight, I mean what could be better than that?!
There is however something better than that and its the way it connects you, I can’t even imagine how many hours I have spent just staring at her little face while she’s been feeding, I will never get bored of it. I remember at the start she was so tiny and couldn’t swallow all the milk quick enough so it all used to pour out the side of her mouth and soak through my top. Then when she was a bit older I made it my mission to try and get her to laugh whilst feeding as she used to take it so seriously and get annoyed if anyone touched her, I still have the same two sentences I say to her now to make her laugh. I love the way now she’s even older she grabs my nose, puts her hand in my mouth or grips onto my jumper. I love the fact that it is a secret weapon that only I have to help her sleep or to calm her down. I love that it is always there and always the right temperature! I love it how she comes up to me and does a special type of moan when she wants feeding and how she has become much more aware and has started to inspect my nipple. The only thing I don’t think I will love is when she gets some teeth and bites me!
I love that pic!!
well done, you should be proud, it’s not always easy and is definitely something to be very proud of.
L is my 4th. My most successful nurser by far. Little monster bites me and he has no teeth lol I love how they coo at you and they are the perfect excuse to a hectic day. “sorry hun, L needs to nurse and it’s too noisy. He really should have a good feed. So I’m going to lie in the room and nurse, door closed. Please keep the kids out”. Love it! lol
This is absolutely beautiful and I could’ve almost written it myself.
My dirty little secret was trying to get Charles to laugh whilst feeding because I loved the little noise that came out of his mouth, different to his normal laugh.
I fed Charles until he was 18 months, with almost a full set of teeth. I promise its not too bad. He quickly learnt that if he bit me that I would take him off which obviously he didn’t like, so he would latch on again and “behave” (for want of a word).
