I have been tagged by Steph from Little E and Bean to reveal why I blog.
I started blogging 18 months ago and it quickly became a bit of an obsession. I found it so therapeutic to be able to share what was going on in my head and couldn’t actually believe it when people starting reading and commenting on my posts.
I attended blogging conferences and made friends who were all just as desperate as me to talk about Klout scores, the Tots100 rankings, Twitter and stats. I made local blogging friends, there are lots of Bristol based bloggers and we all meet up and as when we manage to arrange it. I developed a love for writing and for the first time I had a hobby that inspired me for longer than a day.
I started making money from my blog which was a completely unexpected bonus and then I ended up finding a job running the blog and social media accounts for a company called Party Packs. I also set up a second blog called The Perfect Romance Experiment which has been a bit abandoned lately but reviving it is on my to do list!
All the while I was building up the most amazing online record of Iyla’s life, of our little family’s life and as morbid as it sounds, if anything was to happen to me before Iyla remembers then it makes me feel happy to know that she will be able to read enough on my blog to get an idea of what I was like as a person, and more importantly how much I loved her.
The reason I talk about all of this in the past tense is because when I think of why I blog now, the reasons are a bit different, or more like there aren’t really any reasons anymore. I blog now because it is just a part of me now, I still love it and gets bursts of passion for doing it but I don’t get too worried if I don’t get the urge to blog for a while or if my stats go down. Of course I still care, I mean if I didn’t then I may as well be writing all of this in a private diary, I love that the fact that there are people who enjoy reading what I have to say and I still get a burst of excitement every time someone leaves on a comment on one of my posts but it is no longer an obsession.
Pregnancy has had an effect on my poor little blog though, when my morning sickness was at it’s worse I barely managed to blog at all and even now I still only seem to be posting pregnancy updates and photo posts. I am slowly getting the ideas for more in-depth posts but finding the time to actually write them down is a bit more difficult, something which I doubt will get any easier when Baby Insomniac number 2 arrives!
But no matter much I blog, Mum2BabyInsomniac isn’t going anywhere!
So why do you blog?
And you should check out Little E and Bean’s blog, it is one of my favourites.

Ah, this is great!
I can relate to a lot of what you say here. I haven’t ventured into the world of conferences or networking but it looks pretty exciting.
I think your latest post is testament to how important that ‘diary’ element of blogging is to parent bloggers. It seems to me like no matter how much we go off on tangents, keeping a record of out babies lives is what it all comes back to.
You’ve got such a healthy approach to blogging xx
